New Online Platform — Ohio Aging Compass — Serves as a Trusted Hub for Ohio’s Aging-Related Resources, Tools and Data

Brianne Betts, Chief Communications Officer, Ohio Department of Aging

If you, your parent, or someone else you love, needed to find information about home care services, long-term care facilities, or resources for healthy aging in Ohio, where would you look?

Until now, finding this type of information could be difficult and time-consuming. You might spend hours searching the internet, visiting numerous websites, and sifting through pages of results that might not be relevant, accurate, or even reliable.

Ohioans told us they wanted something different. Their message was clear and consistent: Give us good information. Give us one place to find it. And make sure we can trust it.

That’s why the Ohio Department of Aging created the Ohio Aging Compass.

Recently announced by Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Aging Director Ursel McElroy, the Ohio Aging Compass is a new, free online resource designed to help older adults, their family members, and their caregivers find the information, services, and tools they need to make informed choices. More than just a website, it’s a trusted guide that brings together three powerful tools designed to support Ohioans wherever they are on their aging journey.

  1. The first is the Long-Term Care Quality Navigator, which helps individuals and families compare nursing homes and assisted living communities across the state using quality and performance data. Built in partnership with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, this national award-winning tool was developed in response to feedback from Ohioans who wanted greater transparency and easier access to information when making important decisions about long-term care.
  2. The second is the Healthy Aging Resource Hub, featuring more than 150 vetted resources, tools, programs, and websites focused on healthy aging. Whether someone is looking for information about caregiving, health and wellness, financial planning, transportation, housing, or community engagement, the Healthy Aging Resource Hub provides reliable resources in one convenient location.
  3. The third is the Aging Data Explorer, an interactive dashboard tracking the state’s progress on key priorities across more than 80 metrics.

The need for a resource like the Ohio Aging Compass has never been greater.

Today, about 2.8 million Ohio residents are age 60 or older, representing nearly one-quarter of our state’s population. That number continues to grow as Ohio, like the rest of the nation, experiences a significant demographic shift. In fact, for the first time in U.S. history, there are more older adults than children.

At the same time, aging adults and their families are facing increasingly complex decisions about healthcare, housing, caregiving, and long-term services and supports. Access to accurate information can help people make informed decisions earlier, better prepare for the future, and identify resources that support healthy aging.

But information is only valuable if people can find it — and trust it. And that’s what sets the Ohio Aging Compass apart from other resources. The information available through the Ohio Aging Compass comes from trusted sources, including state agencies, local aging networks, and other credible organizations. The platform is continuously updated to ensure Ohioans have access to current, accurate information rather than having to sort through outdated or unreliable sources online.

Healthy aging looks different for everyone. For some, it means remaining active and independent at home. For others, it may involve exploring supportive services, caregiving resources, or long-term care options. No matter where someone is on their journey, the Ohio Aging Compass is designed to help them find answers, explore possibilities, and make informed decisions.

As Ohio’s older population continues to grow, empowering people with trusted information will be essential. The Ohio Aging Compass is an important step toward ensuring every Ohioan has access to the resources they need to age well, on their own terms.

Whether you’re planning ahead, navigating a current need, or simply wanting to stay informed, the Ohio Aging Compass is ready to be your guide.
